WHY WE MEDITATE?

The purpose of meditation is to make the mind calm and peaceful.

When the mind is peaceful, we are free from worry and mental discomfort, and we experience real happiness. When it is not, no amount of favourable circumstance will make us happy for long.

We usually try to solve this from the outside — changing the job, the house, the people around us. Meditation works the other way around. It looks for peace where peace actually resides: within our own mind.

WHAT WE PRACTICE

Our classes are drawn from Kadampa Buddhism, a lineage that began with Buddha himself and passed through India and Tibet before coming to the West.

What we teach is not theory. Each week you receive a practical instruction you can take into daily life — a method for working with anger, for meeting anxiety, for keeping a steady mind when things go wrong — together with guided meditation to put it into practice.

Deepen wisdom and compassion, and daily problems become workable. That is the whole of the path, and it begins with one hour.

EVERYONE IS WELCOME

These classes are open to everybody. You need no experience of meditation and no background in Buddhism, and you are not required to believe anything or join anything.

We welcome people of every race, gender, age, background, religion, politics and sexual orientation. Come as you are.
